200,000 Victims Of Yolanda Did NOT Receive Assistance!!
Three years after the devastation of superyphoon ‘Yolanda’ in Tacloban Leyte, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWS) found out that 200,000 people from regions 6 and 8 complained that they did not receive any assistance from the government.
This is from the report of DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte as they showed the irregularities in governmend aid for victims of the supertyphoon.
“We have submitted the report to the President already and we asked him to initiate the investigation,” Taguiwalo said from a report on
“The money has gone to the people but there are cases of irregularities or non-compliance… The exclusion of emergency shelter assistance is widespread,” she added.
The Secretary started investigating Yolanda funds when she assumed office in July because of the request of the people.
“We are doing our best that the Yolanda experience in terms of delayed provision of emergency assistance should not be repeated. We don’t want any form of irregularity or corruption, and the President was very clear about it.”
The government has received over a billion dollars of foreign aid after the supertyphoon hit the Tacloban City.
However, it became controversial as thousands of victims remained homeless until now.
